Mental Health Awareness Week

“Spending time in nature has been found to help with mental health problems including anxiety and depression. For example, research into ecotherapy (a type of formal treatment which involves doing activities outside in nature) has shown it can help with mild to moderate depression.” – Mind Charity

At OS lifestyle we recognise the importance of removing the stigma that surrounds mental health and reconnecting with nature. Mental Health Awareness week is a great opportunity to further educate ourselves and our customers on how important it is to maintain a healthy state of mind.

Our team being at their happiest is key for our growth as a business and to flourish ideas and techniques. We’ve asked all our staff to have a think about, and share, how connecting with nature helps them keep a healthy state of mind, and to ensure they take the right amount of time to allow nature into their life.

We loved their answers so much that we wanted to put them into a blog to help encourage anyone reading to take some time outdoors:

Danny Arter – “For me it’s paddleboarding down rivers taking in the nature along the river banks. It’s peaceful and a great experience doing alone with yourself to free the mind.”

Ryan Flood – “I would love to go live in a cabin near a lake in the woods in Canada. Having lived for so long in large cities, just the thought of having that silence is so relaxing. That’s why I go cycling out of the city and into the countryside away from all the noise.”

Sophie Choi – “I really enjoy going for walks outside, it helps me clear my head and gives me a chance to reflect. Having the opportunity to limit my screen time really helps.”

George Oakley – “Being in a natural environment helps to bring me into the ‘moment’. Being present and noticing what’s around me really helps to clear my mind.”

Joe Steven – “Something simple like building a fire or chopping wood away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It gives me a chance to reset my batteries and puts things into perspective.”

Alex Turner – “I love cycling along the coast where I live – I try to do one long ride every week. Getting fresh air really helps clear my head. It also gives me a boost of energy and a sense of achievement for the rest of the day.”

Inspired by some of the flavours of nature, our new Sea Salt and Pine Soap Bar is available now at all our barbershops and at www.oslifestyle.co.uk
