Scissors and clippers at the ready… We’re back in Lockdown and here to help with some DIY cutting tips.
Isolation has proven a great opportunity to grow your hair out, however with growing comes the dreaded ‘in-between stage’ that customers often come to us with to tidy up.
We don’t recommend you try and give yourself a full haircut, but we do have some simple tips for you to follow if you need to shape up at home.
As we’re unable to open OS Barbers for the next month, and if you can’t resist cutting your locks, here is our easy step-by-step guide for simple hair maintenance:
1. Fringe cutting
Before cutting, comb your fringe direction downwards and dry your hair. When cutting, use the points of the scissors to cut to the desired length, and to avoid cutting in a straight line.

2. Around the ears & neck hair
It can often start to feel messy when hair starts to grow over your ears. To address this, comb your hair over the ears, and cut around your hairline with scissors.
For your neck hair ideally you’ll need two mirrors for this tip, or are able to ask someone you live with. For best results, avoid cutting into the hairline, which can subsequently carve in unnatural lines. Focus on removing the hair on the back of your neck only. Use downwards strokes on the clipper away from the hairline.

3. Beard
Keeping the lip-line, cheeks and neckline of your beard tidy is key when it comes to shape. Use clippers to remove unwanted hair from these areas, then comb through your beard and use a freehand scissor technique to remove any unwanted flyaway hairs. This restores the beard’s shape and gives it a fuller effect.
